WARNING SPOILER ALERT!
The plot of the entire movie is no longer new to treasure hunting and heist fans out there. It may be predictable, but give them credit, as it does manage to hook its audience with its own twist.
It starts with a history lesson about Cleopatra’s three eggs, where all but one is found.
The movie follows an FBI agent (Dwayne Johnson) working with the “second” best thief in the world (Ryan Reynolds) in trying to stop the Bishop (Gal Gadot) from acquiring the last two remaining eggs.
Together the two joined forces in a “marriage of convenience” to defeat a common enemy- Wonderwoman turned bad, I mean, the Bishop where the hunt begins.
Overall you get to see the comedic duo Ryan Reynolds as he tried to combine his green lantern persona with his iconic Deadpool one, minus of course, the blood and guts. His partner (or rather his not friend), Dwayne Johnson, pulls out his character from one of his movies (I’m looking at you jungle cruise and Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle) while still trying to achieve the detective he was meant to be, though it doesn’t seem to be obvious.
Sure the two were fun to follow through the rest of the movie; with their comedic exchange, they did manage to make the audience (me) believe in their so-called character. But honestly, it’s just watching Deadpool and the rock finding the missing egg while trying to beat wonder woman (men, ugh).
The movie pulls its wonder through various comedic dialogue and its cameos throughout the rest of the film. Shot in different beautiful locations such as Rome.
A plus point for this thief movie is the use of modern technology, which can be a bit scary, but fun as well. Now you can use 3D printing to print out a copy of a rare historical piece, and apparently, you can use deep fake technology as well to copy a different person and make it your own.
The cast characters are a bit cliche with the tandem of a serious muscular dude and an annoying smart dude.
Honestly, it isn’t about the plot anymore, but rather seeing your favourite characters on screen. So if you’re a big fan of either The Rock, Deadpool, or Wonder Woman, then this movie might be fun to spend the rest of the night with popcorn and beers.
It’s nothing new, but it is entertaining.
If you wanna laugh and unwind a bit and don’t care about the plot, just the characters, then this movie might be for you. Catch it now on NETFLIX.
